Dear Parent at the start of half term

Updated: Oct 23, 2020

Your social media feed is about to be filled to brimming with rosy cheeked children enjoying the outdoors, older children doing all sorts of exciting and probably expensive activities, lots of smiling groups and maybe the odd dog too!

Comparison is the thief of joy. You see the warts and all version of your life and sometimes it’s too easy to miss the fact that everyone else has moments where they feel overwhelmed, shout at their children, feel guilty about pretty much everything and find themselves lacking.

It’s just this won’t make it into your feed.

That’s ok.

It’s also ok that your half term isn’t the same as everyone else’s. Your family’s needs, circumstances and responsibilities aren’t the same as everyone else’s.

Whether you’ve got lots or little to share on social media this next week is not the real issue. The question is how can you treasure and value what you are doing with and for your family?

Raising a human being is a great privilege and often a joy, but it’s not meant to be easy.

Remember to be kind to yourself this week. xx
